Rugged hat, definitely a great hat for the price. Don't get me wrong, this hat only has 5% rabbit fur in the felt, the rest is wool. But it is a very thick and rugged felt. You can actually pick it up by the brim with one hand and put it on (you probably don't want to do this while wet) and put it on your head. I did modify this hat for my nephew (he wanted a hat like John Wayne's) by rebashing the crown by first steaming it well and then converting to a diamond bash and a front "pinch". Now it is fairly similar look to John Wayne's hat in "Hondo". I removed the fairly unsubstantial band and took an old women's belt, cut it down and made a new band. Then I punched small holes on each side of the brim to make a stampede string. This is now much improved, and that is saying a lot--this hat was great out of the box except for one thing--one side of the brim was bent upward at a sharper angle. I fixed this during the steaming process (very easy--I have a steamer, but you can just as easily use a tea kettle). Finally, I sprayed the whole thing down with scotch guard to ensure it survives any rain storms and also can be cleaned.I can see someone getting this for a working hat and being pretty happy. The felt is not the equal in softness or quality of say, and Akubra (100% rabbit fur felt), but it is also a LOT thicker felt. The color I bought for my nephew is Silverbelly--a very nice classic color that is the same as most classic western hats worn by cowboy actors. For $61,00 (the price as of my purchase) I could not find a better or more rugged hat--and it should give years of service.Nice hat for the money. A wee bit thin.. I'll up date in 9 months...This hat looks and feels like products that run hundreds of dollars. I’m very much impressed.Great shape, excellent feel, superb value!Made in U.S.A. - Just how a Cowboy hat should be.I where a size 7 in every hat and I have 8 felt hats first one I've had to put hat filler inLoved the price. The only defect,(if you want to call it that) the inter liner is in the hat backwards. As it is the hat is very good quality. Definitely would buy againGood color and feelNice hat, but significantly larger than another 7 1/8 hat that I have. The felt is also incredibly thin on the brim and have already worn off in a few places despite only getting it wet a few times to shrink it.I bought this as a gift for my Texas-born 88 year old father, to replace his old, crumpled, out of shape cowboy hat. I love this hat on my father. The quality is good and it has held up nicely since purchased. I am very happy with this purchaseVery very happy with my new hatabsolutely loved the quality .
